By your hand, DeFi will die

I have been building in DeFi for 2 years now, and I am more and more disgusted by the toxic attitude that many users have towards those who create the protocols and platforms that they use.

Builders, who are often just a handful of people working on a project full-time, put in countless hours of research, development, testing, marketing, and maintenance to bring their DeFi protocols to life. And yet, when something goes wrong or their project doesn’t meet people’s expectations, they are the ones who bear the brunt of the criticism and are often subjected to extreme levels of pressure and abuse.

It’s not fair. Many often continue working on their projects for months and years, even during the bear market, without any expectation of immediate return or recognition. It would be incredibly convenient for them to just quit and disappear, but instead, they show a sense of responsibility and duty towards their users.

It’s time for DeFi users to realize that the builders who create the protocols and platforms they use are not their enemies, but rather, they are the ones who are making it possible for them to access DeFi in the first place. Without these builders, there would be no DeFi.

There is also the very real concern that if this toxic attitude continues, it will continue to drive away the legitimate builders from the space and leave only scammers and grifters around. It can get very tempting to give up and start exploring exciting problems in other fields, say AI or VR.

It’s important for DeFi users to realize that their actions have consequences, and that by attacking and harassing the builders who are working hard to improve the DeFi ecosystem, they are only hurting themselves and the community as a whole. If they want to continue to see more innovation in DeFi, they need to at least treat those who make it all possible with some dignity.
